Communication and Internet

When you are abroad, it is important to stay in contact with family and friends.

Find out where you can access the Internet or get a local number for your mobile phone.

Internet

Universidad ORT Uruguay has numerous computer labs.

Students enjoy free access but to guarantee a spot during peak class hours you should reserve in advance through Autoservicio Estudiantil.

Also, free Wi-Fi can be accessed throughout the campus buildings.

Your username is your student number and you receive your password from the International Office.

Mobile phones

Currently there are three companies offering mobile phone services (AntelMovistar, and Claro).

Usually the pay-as-you-go plan allows you to select "friends and family numbers" to talk for free or at lower rates with other users from the same company.

SIM cards from any of these companies can be purchased at newsstands or flagship stores around the city.

We suggest you register your new phone number at a flagship store so that it can be recovered in case of losing the SIM card.

Normally, a valid passport and a contact number in Uruguay are required to complete the transaction.

Phone credit can be purchased at Abitab, as well as in newsstands, or online.

Postal services

Besides the Uruguayan postal service (Correo Uruguayo) there are several courier service providers such as Federal Express, UPS and DHL.

There are post offices located near all campus buildings.
